Garlan Gudger is a member of the Republican Party and represents District 4 in the Alabama State Senate. He assumed office on November 7, 2018, and his current term ends on November 4, 2026. Gudger ran for re-election to the Alabama State Senate to represent District 4 and won in the general election on November 8, 2022.

Garlan Gudger is a member of the Republican Party and represents District 4 in the Alabama State Senate. He assumed office on November 7, 2018, and his current term ends on November 4, 2026. Gudger ran for re-election to the Alabama State Senate to represent District 4 and won in the general election on November 8, 2022.

Gudger graduated from Cullman High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in building science from Auburn University. Before his political career, Gudger worked as the owner of Southern Accents Architectural Antiques. He was the youngest member to be elected to the Cullman City Council and later was elected to serve in the Alabama Senate.

In terms of his legislative work, Gudger has been assigned to several committees throughout his tenure. For the years 2023-2024, he was assigned to the following committees: Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee, Confirmations Committee, Finance and Taxation Education Committee, Fiscal Responsibility and Economic Development Committee (where he served as Vice Chair), Governmental Affairs Committee, Healthcare Committee, and Tourism Committee.

Gudger was elected to the Alabama State Senate on November 6, 2018. He serves as vice chair on the Fiscal Responsibility and Economic Development Committee. In 1999, Gudger became the second-generation owner of an architectural salvage business that was established out of a garage in 1969. Since that time, Southern Accents Architectural Antiques has grown into one of the top five architectural salvage companies in the nation.

Gudger has been an architectural salvage appraiser for the Alabama Historical Commission and currently serves on the Landmark Committee for the Alabama Historical Commission. In 2004, Gudger became the youngest member in the history of the City of Cullman to be elected to the Cullman City Council. He served on the council for 14 years and was elected to serve as its president for the last ten.
