Linda Coleman-Madison for Senator
Linda Coleman-Madison is a Democratic member of the Alabama Senate, representing the 20th District since 2006. Before her tenure in the Senate, she served as a member of the Alabama House of Representatives from 2003 through 2006.
Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Coleman-Madison’s career began in education. She earned a Bachelor of Science in education from Alabama A&M University and a Master of Arts from the University of Alabama. She then worked as a special education teacher for the Birmingham City School System for 12 years. This experience led her to politics, where she spent a year as a lobbyist for teachers’ rights with the American Federation of Teachers.
In addition to her work in the state legislature, Coleman-Madison served on the Birmingham City Council from 1985 to 1997. She continues to serve the city of Birmingham as its American with Disabilities Act compliance officer.
Throughout her political career, Coleman-Madison has been assigned to various committees. These include the Children, Youth, and Human Services Committee, Finance and Taxation General Fund Committee, Governmental Affairs Committee, Healthcare Committee, Senate Judiciary Committee, Local Legislation Jefferson County Committee, Senate Rules Committee, and the Finances and Budget Committee.
Coleman-Madison’s current term in the Alabama State Senate ends on November 4, 2026.
