Steve Livingston for Senator
Steve Livingston is an American politician and a member of the Republican Party. He has been serving in the Alabama Senate, representing the 8th district since January 2015. In 2023, his Republican colleagues elected him Majority Leader of the Alabama Senate following the resignation of Clay Scofield.
Livingston has been a businessman in Jackson County for more than 25 years. He is a 1974 graduate of Scottsboro High School and a 1978 graduate of the University of Alabama. He has distinguished himself as a servant of his community for many years. He is a long-time member of the Scottsboro Rotary Club and has served as president of the Greater Jackson County Chamber of Commerce. He is a founding member of Leadership Jackson County and a class member of Leadership Alabama Class 10.
Livingston has also served on the boards of the United Way, Boy Scouts of America and on the board of directors of the FNB Bank of Scottsboro. He is a member of First United Methodist Church and has served as chairman of the trustees. He has two children – both are graduates of the Scottsboro City School system and Auburn University. His daughter, Laura Ann, and son-in-law, Drew Mims, are the proud parents of three children: Parker and twin sons Cooper and Jackson. His son Jager and his wife Jackie have two sons, Matty and Titus and live in Houston, Texas. Jager works with Exxon-Mobil.
Livingston was elected to the Alabama State Senate in November, 2014, representing Senate District 8 and reelected in 2018. District 8 includes DeKalb, Jackson, Eastern Madison and parts of South Huntsville. He was recently named to GOPAC’s 2019 Emerging Leaders Class, which is a national organization focused on advancing conservative ideas and policy solutions.
Livingston is the current chairman for the Fiscal Responsibility and Economic Development Committee and serves as a member of the following committees: Rules, Madison County Legislation, Finance and Taxation General Fund, Agriculture Conservation and Forestry, Banking and Insurance, and Transportation and Energy. Additionally, Livingston is vice-chair of the Tennessee Valley Caucus, chair of the Alabama Space Authority, and he serves on the following interim committees: Legislative Council, Nuclear Energy Activities and Hazardous Chemical Toxic Waste Oversight Committee, Joint Committee on Community Service Grants, Energy Council, Reapportionment, Legislative Advisory Committee on Water Policy Management, State Parks, Energy Policy Committee, and The Tennessee Valley Authority’s Regional Energy Resource Council.
