Matthew Martinez is a member of the Democratic Party and represents District 62 in the Colorado House of Representatives. He ran for election to the Colorado House of Representatives to represent District 62 and won in the general election on November 8, 2022.

Matthew Martinez was born in Monte Vista, Colorado. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2005 to 2009. After his service, he pursued higher education and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and government from Adams State University in 2013. He furthered his education by obtaining a master’s degree in political science from Southern New Hampshire University in 2020.

In addition to his political career, Martinez has also worked as the director of the correspondence education program with Adams State University, an educator, and a higher education instructor for veterans and inmates. His career experience showcases his commitment to education and public service.

In the 2022 general election, Martinez defeated Carol Riggenbach to secure his position in the Colorado House of Representatives. He received 55.6% of the votes, amounting to 17,304 votes in total.

As a legislator, Martinez has been assigned to several committees, including the Agriculture, Livestock, and Water Committee, and the House Education Committee, where he serves as the Vice Chair. He is also a member of the Joint Select Committee on Rising Utility Rates.

His legislative priorities include better access to healthcare, education, improving the local economy, protecting the resources of the area, and addressing other issues affecting the rural nature of the region.
