Rob Long was born on January 13, 1985, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He moved to Florida in 2008 and has since established himself as both a professional engineer and a public servant. Long earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Penn State University in 2008 and later completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Florida in 2012. Before entering state-level politics, Long worked as an engineer, focusing on infrastructure and project management. His professional background emphasized sustainable development and practical solutions to community challenges. Alongside his engineering career, Long became active in local government in Delray Beach, Florida. He served as a City Commissioner and later as Vice Mayor from 2023 to 2025. During this period, he also contributed as a board member of the Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency and the Palm Beach County Soil & Water Conservation District, where he worked on issues related to housing, redevelopment, and environmental conservation.

Long was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in a special election held in December 2025 to succeed Joseph Casello.
