Martin J. "Marty" Moylan was born in 1951. He is a full-time legislator and the Illinois state representative for the 55th district. The 55th district includes all or parts of Arlington Heights, Des Plaines, Elk Grove Village, Park Ridge, and the Edison Park Neighborhood.

Martin J. “Marty” Moylan was born in 1951. He is a full-time legislator and the Illinois state representative for the 55th district. The 55th district includes all or parts of Arlington Heights, Des Plaines, Elk Grove Village, Park Ridge, and the Edison Park Neighborhood.

Before his political career, Marty Moylan was an electrician and an electrical inspector. He was also a business representative for IBEW Local 134. His political career began in Des Plaines, where he served as an alderman from May 2003 to May 2009. He then served as the Mayor of Des Plaines from May 2009 to December 2012.

In January 2013, Marty Moylan assumed office as a member of the Illinois House of Representatives from the 55th district. As of July 3, 2022, Representative Moylan is a member of the following Illinois House committees: Business & Innovation Subcommittee, Cities & Villages Committee, Labor & Commerce Committee, Natural Gas Subcommittee, Police & Fire Committee, Public Utilities Committee (Chairman of), Roadways, Rail & Aviation Subcommittee (Chairman of), and Transportation: Regulation, Roads & Bridges Committee.

Marty Moylan has a son named Martin “Colt” Moylan V and a grandson named Martin “Jaxx” Moylan VI. Colt Moylan was elected to the Des Plaines city council in 2019, assuming the position once held by Marty Moylan before being elected Mayor and State Representative.

Marty Moylan has had a successful electoral history. He won the Des Plaines, Illinois City Mayor General Election in 2009 with 43.20% of the votes. He has also won the Illinois 55th State House District General Election in 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018 with 53.26%, 52.71%, 59.08%, and 55.63% of the votes respectively.
