David Edmund Young was born on May 11, 1968, in Van Meter, Iowa. He is an American politician who currently serves as a member of the Iowa House of Representatives from the 28th District. He previously served as the U.S. representative for Iowa’s 3rd congressional district from 2015 to 2019. He is a member of the Republican Party.

Young graduated from Johnston High School in Johnston, Iowa, in 1986. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Drake University in 1991. His career experience includes working as the chief of staff to U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley, a staffer and campaign manager for former U.S. Senator James Paul David Bunning, a development officer with Media Research Center, a legislative aide to former U.S. Senator Hank Brown, a manager loan trainee with Norwest Financial, and a paperboy.

Young was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2014 and was reelected in 2016. However, he lost reelection in 2018 to Democrat Cindy Axne. Young unsuccessfully challenged Axne in 2020 in a rematch, losing by 1.3%. Despite this setback, Young was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in 2022. He represents parts of Dallas County, including western suburbs of Des Moines.

Throughout his political career, Young has been involved in various political positions and has sponsored numerous legislations. His political positions cover a wide range of issues including LGBT issues, veterans, health care, tax reform, tariffs, immigration, foreign policy, Israel, abortion, and drug policy.
