Brandon Woodard for Representative

Brandon Woodard is an American politician and Co-Vice Chair of the Kansas Future Caucus under the Millennial Action Project. He is currently serving in the Kansas House of Representatives, representing the 30th House District as a member of the Democratic Party. Openly gay, he was elected alongside Susan Ruiz as one of the state’s first-ever LGBT state legislators.

During his campaign, he weathered a controversy when it was revealed that he had previously spent five days in jail for a second offense of driving under the influence. Despite this, he has been named the Ranking Minority Member of the House Higher Education Budget Committee starting in January 2020, succeeding Democrat Brandon Whipple, who left the Kansas House of Representatives after being elected Mayor of Wichita, Kansas.

Born on September 1, 1990, in Topeka, Kansas, Brandon Woodard attended city public school before earning his Bachelor’s in political science with a minor in business from the University of Kansas. Nursing his passion for civic engagement, Brandon was a part of multiple public service clubs in college and was elected Student Body Vice President.

His career experience includes working as the manager of philanthropic giving with the KC CARE Health Center, the associate development director of KU (University of Kansas) Endowment, and an alumni relations specialist with the University of Kansas. Woodard has served on the boards of the Johnson County Pride Association and the Johnson County Educational Research Triangle.

In the 2023-2024 tenure, Woodard was assigned to the following committees: Appropriations Committee, Elections Committee, Higher Education Budget Committee, and Insurance Committee. He has also served on the Taxation Committee, Calendar and Printing Committee, House Federal and State Affairs Committee, and was the Ranking Minority Member of the Higher Education Budget Committee in the 2021-2022 tenure.

Brandon Woodard (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the Kansas House of Representatives to represent District 108. He won in the general election on November 8, 2022. His current term ends on January 13, 2025.
