Lance Neelly for Representative
Lance Neelly is a member of the Republican Party and represents District 42 in the Kansas House of Representatives. He assumed office on January 11, 2021, and his current term ends on January 13, 2025. He ran for re-election to the Kansas House of Representatives to represent District 42 and won in the general election on November 8, 2022.
Lance Neelly was born in Hutchinson, Kansas, and currently resides in Tonganoxie, Kansas. Before his political career, Neelly worked as a correctional officer for a maximum security prison and also served as a security supervisor. His career experience has equipped him with a unique perspective that he brings to his role as a representative.
In terms of his legislative work, Neelly has been assigned to several committees. For the tenure of 2023-2024, he was assigned to the Financial Institutions and Pensions Committee, House Judiciary Committee, and served as the Vice Chair for the House Transportation Committee. In the previous tenure of 2021-2022, he was assigned to the House Transportation Committee, Veterans and Military Committee, Financial Institutions and Rural Development Committee, and House Judiciary Committee.
Neelly has also sponsored several pieces of legislation. Some of the notable bills he sponsored include KS HB2313, which aimed to provide legal protections for infants who are born alive regardless of the intent of the delivery, and KS HB2065, which allowed a court to change a spouse’s name to a name that is different than a maiden or former name during a divorce proceeding. He also sponsored KS HB2036, which proposed a property tax exemption for retired and disabled veterans, and KS HB2254, which sought to amend the definition of land devoted to agricultural use for property tax purposes to include properties used as part of registered agritourism activities.
