Tim Shallenburger for Senator
Tim Shallenburger was born on March 14, 1954, in Baxter Springs, Kansas. He attended Pittsburg State University and Coffeyville Community College.
Shallenburger began his political career as a member of the Kansas House of Representatives, representing the 1st district. He served in this role from January 12, 1987, to January 11, 1999. During his tenure, he held the position of Speaker of the House from 1995 to 1998.
Following his time in the House, Shallenburger served as the 36th Kansas State Treasurer. He held this office from January 12, 1999, to January 13, 2003. His successor was Lynn Jenkins, who later became a member of the United States House of Representatives.
In 2002, Shallenburger ran for Governor of Kansas but was defeated by Democrat Kathleen Sebelius, who later served as the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Shallenburger also served as the Legislative Director for the Office of Governor Sam Brownback. In January 2023, he was appointed to the Kansas Senate to succeed retiring senator Richard Hilderbrand. He currently represents the 13th District as a member of the Republican Party.
In addition to his political career, Shallenburger has held various roles in the private sector. He was a former bank officer, a sales manager, and a corporate administrator. He is married to Linda and they have one child.
