Jim Gooch Jr., born on April 13, 1951, is an American politician and a Republican member of the Kentucky House of Representatives. He has been representing District 12 since January 1995.

Before his political career in the House of Representatives, Gooch was the mayor of Providence, Kentucky from 1982 until 1986. He was first elected to the House in 1994 following the retirement of incumbent Dorsey Ridley.

Gooch switched parties from Democratic to Republican in December 2015. Over the years, he has faced several elections and has successfully won his seat. He has been unopposed in many of these elections, demonstrating his strong position in his district.

In addition to his role in the House of Representatives, Gooch has held several other positions. He is a legislative representative to the board of directors of the Green River Area Development District. He served as president of the Providence Chamber of Commerce, president of Providence Jaycees, and president of the Providence Ruritan Club.

He served on the Providence City Council from 1990 to 1993. His professional experience includes working as a district manager for an insurance company and Co-Owner of Western Kentucky Steel Construction Company Incorporated.

Gooch has also been assigned to several committees over the years. These include the House Banking and Insurance Committee, Elections, Const. Amendments & Intergovernmental Affairs Committee, House Natural Resources and Energy Committee, and the House Veterans, Military Affairs, and Public Protection Committee among others.

His current term ends on January 1, 2025, and he is running for re-election to continue representing District 12.
