Aaron M. Kaufman is a member of the Maryland House of Delegates representing District 18 in Montgomery County. He is a member of the Democratic Party and has been serving in the House of Delegates since January 11, 2023.

Aaron M. Kaufman is a member of the Maryland House of Delegates representing District 18 in Montgomery County. He is a member of the Democratic Party and has been serving in the House of Delegates since January 11, 2023.

Kaufman is a lifelong resident of District 18 and has served the community for the last 12 years as a member of the governing body of the Montgomery County and Maryland State Democratic party. He was named “Rookie Delegate of the Session” in 2023.

In the House of Delegates, Kaufman is a member of the Judiciary Committee, where he serves on the criminal law & procedure subcommittee and the family & juvenile law subcommittee. He is also a member of the Maryland Legislative Jewish Caucus and the Maryland Legislative Latino Caucus.

Kaufman has a strong educational background. He attended Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, Maryland, and later pursued higher education at Montgomery College, where he earned an A.A. in general studies in 2009. He then attended the University of Maryland, College Park, where he received a B.A. in American studies in 2011.

Before his political career, Kaufman held various positions. He was an intern at the National Easter Seals Society in Washington, DC, in 2003-04, and at the Office of U.S. Representative Christopher Van Hollen, Jr., 8th Congressional District, Maryland, in 2005. He also worked at the Office of U.S. Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana in 2006 and for Council Member Roger Berliner, Montgomery County Council, in 2007-08. He served as an administrative assistant for the Ways and Means Committee, House of Delegates during the 2012 Session.

Kaufman has also been involved in advocacy and policy work. He was a vice-chair of the Commission on People with Disabilities in Montgomery County from 2007 to 2011 and a member of the Maryland Development Disabilities Council from 2008 to 2017. He worked as a public policy specialist at The Arc of Maryland from 2013 to 2015 and has been a senior legislative associate at The Jewish Federations of North America since 2016.

Kaufman is a disability rights advocate and has cerebral palsy. He is the first member of the Maryland General Assembly with a physical disability. His advocacy work extends to various areas, including women’s rights, environmental protection, quality healthcare, gun safety, and education.
