Ashanti F. Martinez is a member of the Maryland House of Delegates, representing District 22. He is a Democrat and has been serving since February 24, 2023. His office is located at the Lowe House Office Building in Annapolis, MD.

Martinez is a member of the Health and Government Operations Committee, where he serves on the health occupations & long-term care subcommittee and the public health & minority disparities subcommittee. He is also a member of the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland, the Maryland Legislative LGBTQ+ Caucus, and the Maryland Legislative Latino Caucus, which he chaired in 2024.

Before his political career, Martinez was a congressional intern for U.S. Representative Elijah E. Cummings of Maryland’s 7th Congressional District in 2014 and for U.S. Representative Steny Hoyer of Maryland’s 5th Congressional District in 2015. He attended Parkdale High School in Riverdale Park, Maryland, and graduated from Howard University with a B.A. in political science & government in 2018. During his time at Howard, he served as the campaign director for the college democrats of America and was a resident assistant.

After graduation, Martinez worked as the Deputy Political Director for Joseline Pena-Melnyk for Congress from 2015 to 2016 and as the Campaign Manager for Vivian Flowers in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, in 2018. He then served as a constituent services specialist for the District 3 Office of the County Council in Prince George’s County from 2018 to 2020. From 2020 to 2022, he was a Research and Policy Analyst at CASA. Before his appointment to the House of Delegates, he was the Chief of Staff for the District 7 Office of the County Council in Prince George’s County from 2022 to 2023 and a communications specialist for the County Council in 2023.

Martinez was born in April 1996. He was appointed to the Maryland House of Delegates by Governor Wes Moore to fill a vacancy left by the appointment of Alonzo T. Washington to the Maryland Senate.
