Juanita Sandra Bartlett, known as J. Sandy Bartlett, was born on January 6, 1966, in Washington, DC. She is an American politician and lawyer who has been serving as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates representing District 32 since 2019.

Juanita Sandra Bartlett, known as J. Sandy Bartlett, was born on January 6, 1966, in Washington, DC. She is an American politician and lawyer who has been serving as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates representing District 32 since 2019.

Education: Bartlett completed her B.A. in English from Howard University in 1987. She then attended the University of San Diego’s ABA accredited lawyer’s assistant program and received a certification of completion, with honors, in 1992. She earned her J.D. from the Columbus School of Law at Catholic University in 2007.

Career: Bartlett was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 2014 and the Federal Bar in 2016. She worked as a Senior Trademark Paralegal and Department Co-coordinator at Leventhal Senter & Lerman PLLC from 2000 to 2004. She then served as a Senior Paralegal at McGowan, Cecil & Smathers, LLP from 2004 to 2005. She was a law clerk at Drinker, Biddle & Reath, LLP from 2006 to 2008 and later became the Manager of the Trademark Department at Sughrue Mion PLLC from 2008 to 2011. She was an Associate at the Law Offices of Gladys M. Weatherspoon, LLC from 2014 to 2015 and has been a Sole practitioner at the Law Office of Sandy Bartlett, LLC since 2015.

Political Career: Bartlett was first elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 2018 and has been serving since January 9, 2019. She is currently the Vice-Chair of the Judiciary Committee and a member of the Rules and Executive Nominations Committee. She is also a member of the Joint Committee on Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Biotechnology, and the Joint Committee on Ending Homelessness. She has been the House Chair of the Joint Committee on Legislative Ethics since 2021.

Affiliations: Bartlett is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, the Anne Arundel County Bar Association, and the Women’s Bar Association of Maryland. She is also a member of the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland, the Maryland Legislative Latino Caucus, the Maryland Legislative Transit Caucus, and the Women Legislators of Maryland. She has been a life member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) since 1991 and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. since 1985.
