John Hoffman for Senator
John A. Hoffman
Born on January 17, 1965, John A. Hoffman is a dedicated public servant and a member of the Minnesota State Senate. He represents District 36, which includes parts of Anoka and Hennepin County. He is a member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL).
Early Life and Education
John Hoffman was born in Casper, Wyoming. He pursued his higher education at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in 1988. Later, he graduated from the University of Idaho in 2014.
Career
Before his political career, Hoffman served as an executive director. He also served as a member of the Federal Interagency Coordinating Council, assisting and advising Cabinet members on their response to children and families birth to eight, specifically those with special health care needs.
Political Career
Hoffman’s political journey began when he served as a member of the Anoka-Hennepin School District Board, beginning in 2005. He was first elected to the Minnesota Senate in 2012, defeating incumbent Benjamin Kruse. He was reelected in 2016, 2020, and 2022. In 2021, Hoffman became minority whip.
Committee Assignments
Hoffman serves on several committees including Human Service Reform Finance and Policy, Aging and Long-Term Care Policy. He is also the Chair of the Human Services committee.
Personal Life
John Hoffman is married to Yvette and they have one child. They reside in Champlin, Minnesota. In addition to his political career, Hoffman is a business owner. He runs Hoffman Strategic Advisors in Champlin.
