Senator Walter Michel - Contact Information

J. Walter Michel, born on December 30, 1960, is an American politician who has been serving in the Mississippi State Senate from the 25th district since 2016. He previously served in the Mississippi State Senate from 2000 to 2012.

Michel was born in Jackson, Mississippi and is a member of the Republican Party. He resides in Ridgeland, Mississippi. He has also been a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives.

Michel attended Jackson Preparatory and the University of Mississippi. He works in commercial real estate. He is a member of MS Association of Realtors, MS Forestry Association, Rotary Club, National Rifle Association, Ole Miss Alumni Association, Eagle Scout, National Wild Turkey Federation, NFIB and Madison County Chamber of Commerce.

In the 2023-2024 legislative session, Michel was assigned to several committees including the Senate Appropriations Committee, Economic and Workforce Development Committee, Senate Energy Committee, Senate Ethics Committee, Senate Executive Contingent Fund Committee, Senate Insurance Committee, Senate Rules Committee, Senate Universities and Colleges Committee, and Senate Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Committee.

Michel ran for re-election to the Mississippi State Senate to represent District 25 and won in the general election on November 7, 2023. His current term ends on January 4, 2028.

Michel is married to the former Beth McClellan and they live in Ridgeland. He is of the Catholic faith.
