Greg Razer, a Democrat, is the State Senator for the 7th Senatorial District, serving a portion of Jackson County. He was first elected to serve in the Senate in 2020. Senator Razer previously served two terms in the Missouri House of Representatives.

Greg Razer, a Democrat, is the State Senator for the 7th Senatorial District, serving a portion of Jackson County. He was first elected to serve in the Senate in 2020. Senator Razer previously served two terms in the Missouri House of Representatives. While in the Missouri House of Representatives, Senator Razer served as the ranking minority member on the Higher Education Committee as well as on the General Administration Subcommittee on Appropriations, while also serving on the Budget, Transportation, Ways and Means, Consent and House Procedure, and the Administration and Accounts Committees. During his service in the House of Representatives, Sen. Razer also served on the 21st Century Missouri Transportation System Task Force, the Special Committee on Innovation and Technology, and the Special Investigative Committee on Oversight which investigated former Governor Eric Greitens prior to his resignation.

Prior to his legislative duties, Sen. Razer was the Deputy Regional Director for U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill from 2008-2016.

Senator Razer graduated from Cooter High School (Cooter, Missouri) in 1996. He received his bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2000. Senator Razer is proud to call Kansas City home since having moved there in 2001.

Sen. Razer’s election in 2020 made him only the second ever openly-LGBT+ member of the Missouri Senate. Sen. Razer’s advocacy on LGBT+ rights has been featured on NBC’s Dateline, Politico, the New York Times, and more. Sen. Razer’s work has also been cited as having helped to convince Netflix’s Queer Eye Seasons 3 and 4 to film in Kansas City. Sen. Razer has advocated for many other various groups while in the senate, as different pieces of legislation he has helped to pass has supported victims of gun violence, EMT workers, children in foster care, the deaf and hard of hearing community, retired teachers, among others.

Sen. Razer is proud to have helped pass three separate bills that are potentially life-saving; the enforcement of mental health parity, allowing direct access to HIV post-exposure prophylaxis from pharmacies during emergencies, and the prohibition of texting while driving (making Missouri the last state to do so). Sen. Razer’s work on mental healthcare in particular has earned him recognition from both the city of Kansas City and the Missouri Psychiatric Physicians Association.

In addition to his legislative work during his tenure in the Senate, Sen. Razer was proud to join Gov. Mike Parson in 2022 on a trade mission to the United Kingdom and Ireland as a representative for District 7 and Kansas City. During the legislative interim of 2023, Sen. Razer led a group of fellows with the Urban Leaders Fellowship as an elected official partner.

As both an avid sports fan and proud Kansas Citian, Sen. Razer has worked to promote both the Kansas City Current and the upcoming 2026 World Cup. In addition to cheering on the Current, Sen. Razer roots on the Chiefs, Royals, Mizzou Tigers, and the UMKC Roos. Outside of his work in the capitol, Sen. Razer works in the patient care experience division at University Health.
