Jim MacKay for Representative
Jim MacKay is a member of the Democratic Party and represents Merrimack 18 in the New Hampshire House of Representatives. He assumed office on December 7, 2022, and his current term ends on December 4, 2024. MacKay ran for re-election to the New Hampshire House of Representatives to represent Merrimack 18 and won in the general election on November 8, 2022.
Jim MacKay earned a B.A. and M.A. from Tufts University, an M.S.W. from Boston University, and a Ph.D. from the Union for Experimental Colleges and Universities. His career experience includes founding a private clinical social work practice and working as the director of alcoholism and the director of community mental health services of the New Hampshire Department of Public Health. He has also been an adjunct professor with the University of New Hampshire and the University of UConn, and the director of research of the Massachusetts Youth Service Board.
In addition to his legislative duties, MacKay has served as the mayor and a city councilor of Concord, New Hampshire. He has been assigned to the Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs Committee multiple times throughout his legislative career.
Before his current term, MacKay served 12 years on the Concord City Council, including 4 years as the Mayor of Concord. He has served on a number of boards and commissions, such as the Merrimack Valley Assistance Program (HIV), the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center, NH Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, and the City of Concord Airport Advisory Committee, among others.
Over the years, MacKay has received many awards. Most notably, he was awarded a national award: Ruth Knee-Milton Wittman Award for Lifetime Achievement in Health and Mental Health Practice by the National Association of Social Workers Foundation in Washington, DC.
