Mary Jane Wallner, born on October 25, 1946, in St. Louis, Missouri, is a dedicated public servant and a Democratic member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives. She has been representing the Merrimack 10th District since 1980, which includes Concord, Ward 5, and Hopkinton.

Education: Mary Jane Wallner is an alumna of Celina High School in Celina, Ohio. She pursued her higher education at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, NH, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 1971. She also attended Wheelock College in Boston, MA.

Political Career: Mary Jane Wallner is currently serving her 21st term in the New Hampshire House. She held the position of House Majority Leader from 2007 to 2010. During her tenure in the House, Rep. Wallner has served on various committees including the Rules, Legislative Administration, Health and Welfare, Children, Youth and Families, and the Finance and Fiscal Committees.

Community Involvement: Apart from her political career, Wallner’s community involvement is extensive. She serves as the Executive Director of the Merrimack Valley Day Care Service. She has also served as the Past President of the New Hampshire Child Care Association and was a member of the New Hampshire Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect. She has been a board member of New Hampshire Healthy Kids, the New Hampshire Women’s lobby, and the New Hampshire Children’s Alliance.

Awards and Recognition: Over the years, Representative Wallner has received numerous awards for her service. She was named the 1995 Legislator of the Year by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the 1996 Legislator of the Year by the New Hampshire Association of Social Workers. She was awarded the 1998 Providian Child Care Partner Award, the 2001 Legislator of the Year by the New Hampshire Association of Counties, and the 2004 Profile of Service Award from the UNH Alumni Association. She also received the 2005 Outstanding Legislator Award from the New Hampshire State Grange, the 2006 Peter Hoe Burling Legislative Award, the 2008 Meritorious Service Award from the New Hampshire Women’s Lobby, and the Bruce E. Friedman Award from Partners in Service for Children, Youth, and Families.
