Durkin assumed office on January 31, 2024. His current term is set to end on December 4, 2024. Prior to his current position, the Coos 1st district was represented by Troy Merner.

Durkin’s journey to the New Hampshire House of Representatives was marked by a special election. He ran as a Republican candidate and emerged victorious in the special general election held on January 23, 2024.

In the special general election for New Hampshire House of Representatives Coos 1, Durkin faced off against Cathleen Fountain. Durkin secured a decisive victory, garnering 60.2% of the votes, which amounted to 1,289 votes. Fountain, on the other hand, received 39.8% of the votes, totaling 851 votes.
