Teresa Ruiz is a prominent figure in the New Jersey State Senate, representing District 29. She is a member of the Democratic Party and has been serving in office since 2008. Her current term is set to end on January 11, 2028.

Ruiz has a distinguished career in politics. She ran for re-election to the New Jersey State Senate to represent District 29 and won in the general election on November 7, 2023. Prior to her current role, she served as state Senate president pro tempore from January 2018 to January 2022, when she assumed the position of State Senate Majority Leader.

In addition to her political career, Ruiz has a background in education. She earned her B.A. in English from Drew University. Her professional experience includes working as a preschool teacher and as deputy chief of staff for Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr.

Throughout her tenure, Ruiz has been assigned to various committees.
