Carson Henry Smith Jr., born around 1967, is an American politician who is a member of the Republican party. He was initially elected in 2018 and has been serving as a representative of the 16th district of the North Carolina House of Representatives since 2019. The 16th district includes all of Pender County and parts of Columbus County.

Carson Henry Smith Jr., born around 1967, is an American politician who is a member of the Republican party. He was initially elected in 2018 and has been serving as a representative of the 16th district of the North Carolina House of Representatives since 2019. The 16th district includes all of Pender County and parts of Columbus County.

Before his political career, Smith served as the sheriff of Pender County from 2002 until 2018. His experience in law enforcement and public safety has been a significant part of his career. In fact, during the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, Smith was appointed as the interim Emergency Management Director of Pender County after the sudden resignation of Chuck Tear. Interestingly, Smith had previously served as the Emergency Management Director for the county prior to his first term as sheriff in 2002.

In terms of his electoral history, Smith has had a successful run. In the 2020 North Carolina House of Representatives 16th district general election, he secured 64.40% of the votes, defeating his Democratic opponent Debbi Fintak. Similarly, in the 2018 general election, Smith won with 59.32% of the votes against Democratic candidate John Johnson.

As a representative, Smith has been active in various committees. In the 2021-2022 session, he served as the Vice Chair of the Appropriations committee and the Pensions and Retirement committee. He was also the Chair of the Appropriations - Justice and Public Safety committee. Other committees he was part of include Judiciary II, Marine Resources and Aqua Culture, and Wildlife Resources.
