Jay Adams (Republican Party) is a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 96. He assumed office on January 1, 2015. His current term ends on January 1, 2025.

Born as James Cecil Adams Jr. in 1949, Jay Adams has been serving the constituents of Catawba County since 2015. He earned his Bachelor of Science in education from The Citadel. His professional experience includes working as a real estate broker, for SIECOR as a Technical Communications Specialist, and for Deville Furniture.

Adams has served on the City of Hickory’s Brownfield Advisory Group. He has served on numerous boards and committees in the Catawba County Chamber of Commerce, the Western Piedmont Council of Governments, and the City of Hickory.

In terms of electoral history, Adams has had a successful run. In the 2020 North Carolina House of Representatives 96th district general election, he secured 62.95% of the votes. In the 2018 general election, he secured 60.74% of the votes. In the 2016 general election, he ran unopposed.

Adams has been assigned to several committees throughout his tenure. In the 2023-2024 session, he was assigned to the Appropriations Committee, Appropriations on Transportation Committee, Commerce Committee, Education - Community Colleges Committee, Local Government - Land Use, Planning and Development Committee, House Transportation Committee (Vice Chair), Wildlife Resources Committee (Chair), Appropriations on Education/Higher Education Committee, and Appropriations/Base Budget Committee.

As of the 2020 Census, North Carolina state representatives represented an average of 87,116 residents. After the 2010 Census, each member represented 79,715 residents. North Carolina House of Representatives District 96 is represented by Jay Adams (R).
