John Autry is a member of the Democratic Party and represents District 100 in the North Carolina House of Representatives. He assumed office on January 1, 2017, and his current term ends on January 1, 2025.

Born in Fayetteville, Autry studied theatre at California State University-Fullerton. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1972 to 1976. He has been the chief technology officer and partner at eMitigate, an organization focused on legal, financial, and operating risk mitigation.

Before his tenure in the North Carolina House of Representatives, Autry was a member of the Charlotte City Council in North Carolina, representing District 5 from 2011 to 2016. He also served as a Supervisor for the Mecklenburg Soil and Water Conservation District from 2006 to 2011.

In his professional career, Autry has held several positions including Chief Technology Officer at W.A.R.N. from 2002 to 2014, Director of Audio Video Services at TrainOne from 2005 to 2010, Trainer at GCi from 2000 to 2002, and Director of Creative Services at iXL from 1998 to 2000.

As of the 2020 Census, North Carolina state representatives represented an average of 87,116 residents. After the 2010 Census, each member represented 79,715 residents. Autry ran for re-election to the North Carolina House of Representatives to represent District 100 and won in the general election on November 8, 2022.

In the 2023-2024 session, Autry was assigned to the following committees: Appropriations Committee, Appropriations on Information Technology Committee, Commerce Committee, Environment Committee, Local Government Committee, and Military and Veterans Affairs Committee.

On November 10, 2023, Autry announced he would not seek re-election to the North Carolina House of Representatives District 100.
