Kirk Schuring for Senator
Senator Kirk Schuring represents the people of Senate District 29, which encompasses most of Stark County. He was selected by his Senate Colleagues to serve as Ohio Senate President Pro Tempore for the 135th General Assembly. He served as the Senate Majority Floor Leader in the previous General Assembly. Senator Schuring was recently reelected to the Ohio Senate in November 2022 for another four-year term.
Since joining the General Assembly in 1993, Senator Schuring has authored dozens of legislative initiatives benefiting health care, economic development, and families that have been passed into law. These include the establishment of Joint Economic Development Districts and Cooperative Economic Development Agreements to help further economic development in communities across the state, as well as bills stiffening penalties for repeat domestic violence offenders and enhancing school safety zones. Senator Schuring has also been involved in improving Ohio laws regarding organ donation, acupuncture, nursing, and chiropractic care.
Senator Schuring’s dedication to the people of Ohio has brought him numerous accolades. He has been named Legislator of the Year by AMVETS – Department of Ohio, the Ohio Network of Children’s Advocacy Centers, the Ohio Association of Free Clinics, the Ohio Fraternal Order of Police, the Ohio Speech and Hearing Association, the Public Children Services Association of Ohio, the Ohio Society of CPAs, and the Ohio Association of Acupuncturists. Senator Schuring has also been named a Friend of Public Education by the Ohio Federation of Teachers, a Guardian of Small Business by the National Federation of Independent Businesses, and received the legislative award from The Justice League of Ohio, the Friend of Higher Education Award from the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Ohio, and the Voice of Justice Award from the Ohio Legal Assistance Foundation. He is also a past recipient of the Heritage Award for his work establishing Ohio’s Historic Preservation tax credit law.
A lifelong resident of Stark County, Senator Schuring graduated from Perry High School and attended Kent State University. He is married and has two children.
