Al Novstrup for Senator
Al Novstrup is a business owner, an American politician, and a Republican member of the South Dakota House of Representatives representing District 3 since January 2015. He was born on August 4, 1954, in Sisseton, South Dakota, U.S. He is married to Kathy Novstrup and they have two children. They currently reside in Aberdeen, South Dakota, U.S.
Novstrup earned his BS in economics from South Dakota State University. After earning his degree, he worked as a teacher for Granite Falls High School from 1977 to 1980. He then worked as manager and owner of Computer Specialists from 1982 to 2001. He has worked as manager and owner of Thunder Road Family Fun Park since 1994.
Novstrup has served in the South Dakota Legislature since 2003. He was a member of the State House of Representatives from 2003-2009 and 2015 to 2017 and a member of the South Dakota Senate from 2009–2015 and from 2017 to present. In 2018, he was re-elected to the state senate after winning a rematch with liberal blogger and substitute teacher Cory Heidelberger. In 2016, he ran & won seat in the senate against liberal blogger and substitute teacher Cory Heidelberger. In 2014, he was elected back to the house. He currently serves with Dan Kaiser.
Novstrup has been assigned to several committees throughout his political career. These include the Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, Senate Health and Human Services Committee, Senate Taxation Committee, Senate Commerce and Energy Committee, Senate Legislative Procedure Committee, Senate Local Government Committee, Senate State Affairs Committee, and Joint Legislative Procedure Committee.
Novstrup is the father of David Novstrup, who also represented District 3 of the state Senate and state House.
