Ferrell Haile for Senator
Ferrell Haile is an American politician and a Republican member of the Tennessee Senate. He has been representing District 18 since January 8, 2013. Prior to this, Haile served from his appointment on November 22, 2010, filling the vacancy caused by the resignation of Senator Diane Black until March 8, 2011.
Background and Education: Ferrell Haile was born in Gallatin, Tennessee. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Lipscomb University and the University of Tennessee Pharmacy School in 1970. His career experience includes working as a farmer, pharmacist, and as an elected official.
Political Career:
- 2012 Elections: With District 18 incumbent Republican Senator Kerry Roberts redistricted to District 25, Haile ran in the four-way August 2, 2012, Republican Primary. He secured victory with 8,627 votes (48.2%) and went on to win the November 6, 2012, General election with 49,472 votes (69.2%) against Democratic nominee Maria Brewer.
- 2000 Elections: In 2000, Haile challenged District 18 incumbent Democratic Senator Joann Graves. He was unopposed in the August 3, 2000, Republican Primary, winning with 5,216 votes. However, he lost the three-way November 7, 2000, General election to Senator Graves.
Leadership Role: Ferrell Haile currently serves as the President pro tempore of the Tennessee Senate, a position he has held since January 19, 2018.
