Mike Petersen, born on August 23, 1963, in Ogden, Utah, is an American politician who serves in the Utah House of Representatives from the 2nd district. He assumed office on January 1, 2023, after beating his predecessor, Val Potter, in a Republican primary. In this primary, Petersen cited recent tax legislation as the need for change.

In terms of education, Mike Petersen is quite accomplished. He graduated from Brigham Young University, receiving his general psychology BS in 1988 and his counseling psychology MEd in 1990. He subsequently studied at Utah State University, earning his instructional design and learning sciences PhD in 2012.

Beyond his political career, Petersen is also a business owner. He owns an education and training development company, LetterPress Software. His career experience includes working as an instructional designer and as a consultant.

Petersen’s voting record is a reflection of the principles contained within the Cache County GOP Platform as well as the Utah and U.S Constitution. He is a strong conservative voice in the legislature for limited government, constitutional rights, individual freedom, parental rights, and fiscal responsibility.

In the 2022 general election for Utah House of Representatives District 2, incumbent Mike Petersen defeated Holly Gunther. His current term ends on January 1, 2025.
