About Representative Doug Bishop - Democratic Representative of Vermont



Doug Bishop was born in New Jersey and came to Vermont in 1984 to attend the University of Vermont, where he studied Political Science and History. After graduating from UVM, he worked on the Washington, D.C. staff of Senator Patrick Leahy before going to Georgetown University Law Center. Bishop then returned to Vermont where he was a private practice attorney for 12 years. In 2010, he made a career change to work in nonprofits and spent five years at the American Red Cross and nine at the Greater Burlington YMCA. Bishop has previously been involved with the United Way of Northwest Vermont, the Boys & Girls Club of Burlington (board member), Rotary, Vermont Disaster Relief Fund (Vice Chair), and currently volunteers with the Colchester Community Food Shelf. He and his wife, Beth Bloomberg, have one adult son, Ian. Bishop is a proud member of Vermont’s 251 Club.
