Senator Danny Diggs - Contact Information

Born in Hampton, Virginia on July 6, 1957, J. D. “Danny” Diggs has dedicated his career to public service. He holds an Associate’s Degree from Thomas Nelson Community College and is a retired law enforcement professional.

Senator Diggs served as the Sheriff of York County and Poquoson, a position he held until January 1, 2023. His commitment to community extends beyond law enforcement. He is actively involved in various organizations, including the Virginia Sheriff’s Association (where he serves as President), the York County Chamber of Commerce (as a Director), and the York-Poquoson Chapter of the American Red Cross (also as a Director).

In addition to his law enforcement background, Senator Diggs has been recognized for his leadership and contributions. He received the 2001 Police Officer of the Year award from the Exchange Club of York, commendations from the Virginia School Board Association in 2001 and 2004, and the 2013 Community Builder Award from the Masonic Grand Lodge of Virginia. His dedication to public safety and community well-being is evident through his involvement in organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club of York, the Kiwanis Club of Grifton, and the Virginia Fraternal Order of Police.

Senator Diggs represents District 24, which includes all of York County, Poquoson City, and Williamsburg City, as well as parts of James City County and Newport News City. His commitment to serving the Peninsula continues in the Virginia Senate.
