Jay Leftwich, born on December 11, 1962, is an American politician affiliated with the Republican Party. He assumed office as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, representing District 90, on January 10, 2024.

James A. “Jay” Leftwich, Jr. has been rooted in Chesapeake his entire life. After graduating from Chesapeake Public Schools, Jay furthered his education at James Madison University, where he earned his B.S. degree in 1985. He then obtained his J.D. from the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond in 1988.

Jay returned to Chesapeake to launch his career and has been a Partner at Basnight, Kinser, Leftwich & Nuckolls, P.C. since 1988. His legal expertise and commitment to the community have made him a respected figure in Chesapeake.

In 2013, Jay successfully won election to the Virginia House of Delegates, representing the 90th District, which is located in Chesapeake. His legislative work reflects his dedication to public service. Currently, he serves on several committees, including Courts of Justice, General Laws, and Counties, Cities and Towns.

Beyond his political career, Jay is deeply involved in community service. He has served as Chairman of the Chesapeake Public Schools Board and has been an active participant in various local organizations, including the Chesapeake Rotary Club. Jay’s commitment to education, legal advocacy, and community betterment continues to shape his impactful contributions to Virginia.
