He received his education from Virginia Commonwealth University (M.Ed in Educational Leadership) and Norfolk State University (B.S. in Business Education). Lamont Bagby is married to Jevata Herman Bagby.
Before serving in the Senate, Bagby was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 2015 to 2023. In March 2023, he won a special election to represent the 14th District, which includes parts of Henrico County and Richmond City.
