LaKeshia Myers for Representative
LaKeshia N. Myers (born May 21, 1984) is an American educator and Democratic politician from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She currently serves as the State Representative of the 12th Assembly District, a position she has held since 2019. Her district encompasses the far Northwest side of Milwaukee, the Village of Brown Deer, and the City of Wauwatosa. As a dedicated assembly member, she actively participates in several committees, including Education, Tourism, Agriculture, and Government Accountability.
Dr. Myers has an impressive educational background. She graduated from Rufus King High School in 2002 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Alcorn State University in 2006. During her time at Alcorn State, she also served as the National Membership Director of College Democrats of America. Later, she pursued a Master of Education from Strayer University in 2009 and completed her doctorate in education at Argosy University in 2016.
Her professional journey has been equally diverse. Dr. Myers has worked as the Director of Education for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, a teacher trainer at Milwaukee Public Schools, a small business owner, a clerk for the United States House of Representatives, and a legislative aide for Wisconsin State Senator Lena Taylor. Her commitment to public service and education has been unwavering, and she continues to advocate for positive change in her community.
Notably, Dr. Myers is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, reflecting her dedication to sisterhood and community upliftment. Her election to the Wisconsin State Assembly marked an important milestone, making her the only African-American woman in the Assembly from the Milwaukee area and one of only two statewide.
